How to Find an Opportunity as a Writer?
Do you know James Altucher? Maybe not; well, he is a writer. His write-ups got rejected multiple times but guess what? He is the author of 15 books, and his work has been featured in publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.
If you believe you can earn with your writing skill, then you are in the right place, as today I will help you find the best opportunities as a writer.
If you think that you will earn money if you love to write, then you are wrong. Conversely, It will be the same if you want to make money with writing but don’t love writing.
And I want to mention a crazy thing if you think you will be recognized as a writer if you copy-paste from GPT, then it’s better if you leave the space.
Well, let’s dive deep
Know yourself: Do you know yourself? How many times in your life have you sat with yourself and analyzed yourself? The number may be ‘0.
If you want to be a writer and if you want to make money with your words, then you have to know your strength and weaknesses. (Analyse SWOT) What are you good at? Caging the audience, then go for a copywriting gig; if you love telling stories like me, find a content writing gig.
Explore: I always suggest finding and hopping on the market for various ways and views. You can check the quality Blogs, publishings and learn from them. Ask yourself which one is best — niche-based market or self-publishing. Whichever suits you, you can opt for that. Everything has its perks and cons.
Network: Imagine a tree on a barren island; no one knows when it was born or when it will die. If you want to be that tree, then okay. If you still need to, connect with the people in your niche or who could be your potential client and those who are experts in the social media platform. You can join the writing groups and writing communities where you will get the kick and learning. These connections will give you lead (Inbound).
Research: Be a treasure hunter, and find the in-demand topics. Research the trends and popular queries. You need to understand and study your customers, so work on it. Whenever you can find something unique, utilize the opportunities.
Portfolio: I can’t trust you. I am sceptical. The answers or responses will be when you reach out to your service with an empty hand. Make it a dazzling portfolio and use some cool keyphrases like I wrote 50,000+ words.
Pitching: If you think that you will get gigs without the art of pitching, then goodbye from my end. You are not someone who people will find and ask for their work. So master the art of pitching by signing up for the excellent newsletter or joining groups that teach how to pitch. You can try LinkedIn DM and Cold Emails. If you want an outreach template, let me know in the comments.
Ghostwriting: I was not aware of this term. It would be best if you wrote without any credit. You will work with others’ names. Find the CEO, Brands and reach out to them.
Self-Publish: Whoever you are, I always want people to start their blog. Please make your blog and start writing on it. You are the owner who will fix what to and how to write.
Adapt and feedback: It’s the new era of AI and changing digital landscape. So, you have to adapt quickly and, as I always say, ask for feedback. Try to connect with peer groups and industry leaders and seek their input.
Remember, it’s a marathon and a process. It will take time, and when you can make it, you will look back and thank yourself. Trust me, every point is worth doing. Keep hustling, and You can make it! You have to work on your writing and be an opportunity hunter. Make your mark on the literary world.
