Freelancing 101
Everything you need to know
I grew up seeing people carrying their bags and rushing to the office by 7:00 AM. Sometimes, they skip breakfast, and sometimes they don’t even say good morning to their parents or partners. That was enough for me to never consider a 9-to-5. I can’t live my life on someone else’s terms, and I can’t sacrifice my life to build someone else’s dream.
Oh, hey stranger, if you’re reading this and feeling the same, welcome to the club. I’m writing this story (which is actually an atomic essay for the 30-day atomic essay challenge by Shagufta ✍🏼) at 11:48 AM on a Tuesday morning. And yes, you guessed it right — while my friends and others are at the office, I am not. I’m not trying to flex — or maybe I am — but I just want to let you know about the freedom someone can enjoy if they choose freelancing over a full-time job.
Well, it’s not all sweet; there’s some bitterness too.
Let’s talk about it. But first, if you still don’t know what freelancing means, let me explain in one line:
“Freelancing is a form of self-employment.”
You take on projects independently, fulfil the requirements, and get paid — no middleman, no boss.
Now, let me tell you about 5 profitable and evergreen niches to start your freelancing career:
- Copywriting: Persuasion is one of the most valuable skills you can have.
- Email Marketing: Build a 1:1 relationship with your customer; it’s never gonna die (Yes, I am proud of my niche)
- Coaching: Whether it’s accountability, mindset, or any other area, people need guidance.
- UX/UI Design: Design is a critical skill that no one can ignore.
- Sales/Marketing: No business can survive without these.
However, when you take full responsibility for your work, you also face these challenges:
- Time management
- Continuous upskilling
- Stable earnings
- Building a portfolio and trust
- Finding clients and dealing with toxic ones
Now that you know both the good and bad sides of freelancing, the ball is in your court.
So, let me know in the comments — would you choose freelancing or working to build someone else’s dream?
